CAR-T Therapy

Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy—better known as CAR-T– is a special type of cell therapy. Instead of inserting naturally occurring receptors, this approach inserts genetically engineered artificial receptors designed to recognize and bind to cancer cells. CAR-T therapy involves removing a sample of T cells from a patient, reprogramming the cells and multiplying them in a lab and injecting them back into the body. In 2017 the first CAR-T therapies were approved to treat children with leukemia and adults with lymphoma.
