Urinary Problems
Some chemotherapy agents can irritate the bladder, cause hormone changes or even damage nerves, all of which can lead to urinary problems, including difficulty controlling your bladder, aka incontinence. Your care team may recommend lifestyle changes, such as “bladder training,” which involves learning to wait to urinate, as well as changing how and when you eat and drink. Medications and other treatments can also help. Some forms of chemotherapy may also make urinary tract infections more likely, and these may require antibiotics. Other chemotherapy agents may damage the kidneys and need to be carefully monitored. Talk to your health care team if you are experiencing any urinary symptoms so they can be treated promptly and effectively.
