Ron Gardenhire

The former Major League infielder and a Detroit Tigers manager, who has 26 years of managing and coaching experience at the Major League level, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017. Soon thereafter, he underwent a prostatectomy to remove his prostate.

Gardenhire has this advice for men with regard to maintaining their health: “It was all about early detection. Thank God that we’re in baseball, because we get a physical every year. I think all men should do the same thing. They can catch it and take care of you.”

“I’ve got grandbabies that I want to spend time with,” he says. “I want to finish this career in baseball and hang out with my wife when we’re a little older, driving wheelchairs. I’m getting my opportunity due to early detection.”
