Suzanne Somers
In 2000, the Three’s Company and Step by Step actress was diagnosed with breast cancer following a routine mammogram. She underwent a lumpectomy and several rounds of radiation treatment. A year after her diagnosis, she told People, “Everything has slowed down. Cancer does that to you. That’s the first of the blessings.”
Somers launched her own beauty brand, Suzanne Organics, as a result of her diagnosis. The line includes organic, toxic-free, gluten-free products. As she celebrated her 73rd birthday, she once again spoke to People about her experience. “I would say one of the greatest gifts I had was getting cancer 20 years ago,” she said. “And you don’t think that the day you hear the words: ‘You have cancer.’ But it was my wake-up call.”
